Pacing Practice Script
Pacing Practice Script
A simple toolkit to help you bring any picture book to life β one read at a time.
Before You Begin
Reading aloud to your child is one of the most powerful things you can do β not because you need to be perfect, but because your voice, presence, and enthusiasm are what make stories come alive.
This practice script gives you a few simple tools to experiment with pacing, expression, and voice. Think of it less like a performance checklist and more like a playful invitation: try one thing, notice what your child responds to, and build from there.
Use these mark-up symbols directly in any picture book β pencil them lightly in the margins β and return to the rubric and confidence ladder after your read to celebrate what's growing.
Use on Any Picture Book
Lightly pencil these into the margins of any book before you read. They're gentle reminders, not rules.
